SUMMARY:BVT at HTPD Symposium
DESCRIPTION:BVT at HTPD – Symposium (High Throughput Screening & Process Development) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe biotech industry has adopted HT screening in micro well plates as process development tools but still the major question remains on how the process can be optimised\, so that it is representative of the large scale. Conversely what are the criteria for scaling-up the process developed at the microscale to large scale systems? Meanwhile technologies of even smaller dimensions such as microfluidic devices\, lab-on-a chip approaches and HTPD on the nanoscale are discussed as state of the art for process development in the biotech community. Successful application of HT systems for process development depends on the right choice of technology in combination with Design of experiment strategies or mechanistic modelling and statistical evaluation of the obtained data. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProf. Neubauer (Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at the TU Berlin) will talk on April 13th at 11:40 about „Moving towards fully autonomous model-based high-throughput bioprocess development and clone discrimination.Annina Kemmer of the same chair will present her poster in a poster flash talk on April 13th. It is entiteld „Modeling of enzyme-mediated glucose release to facilitate continuous feed in miniaturized fermentations“. \n\n\n\nThe symposium will focus on: \n\n\n\nNanoscale devices to predict process dataScale up / down rules for process development in up and downstream processing and their limitationsMicroscale methods for process development in up and downstream processing – case studies\, commercial systemsApplication of DoE and statistical evaluation of large dataMicrofluidic devices for up and downstream processing and their limitationsLab on a chip approach for process development in up and downstream processing\n\n\n\nQuestions to be addressed: \n\n\n\nAre there still open questions to be addressed? Can we predict production scale processes from microscale experiments?Which a priori information is necessary to design experiments? How small is large enough? How should we generate HT data to get the best out of it?\n\n\n\nRenowned speakers from academia and industry will give keynote lectures on the topic and will be part of a round table discussion. Researchers from academia and industry will be invited for presentations. Participants are invited to submit their work for flash presentations and poster session. \n\n\n\nWho should attend? \n\n\n\nPhD students in fields of biotechnology\, biochemical engineering\, chemicals engineeringAll others working in the field of HTPD from industry and academia are highly welcome\n\n\n\nProgramme: \n\n\n\nDownload 2023 programme (PDF)\n\n\n\nFramework programme: \n\n\n\nA site visit at Boehringer Ingelheim RCV is organized on Tuesday morning (max. 25 participants\, first come first serve) including a short introduction of the company and a guided tour to the automation lab at the Process Bioscience Division where a HT platform for process development of E.coli derived products has been set up in collaboration with BOKU Vienna. \n\n\n\nSocial Programme:A get together will be organized at a typical Viennese Heurigen. \n\n\n\nRegistration & Abstract submission

SUMMARY:KIWI-biolab Talk: Machine Learning & Hybrid Modeling - Tools for biopharmaceutical development and production
DESCRIPTION:KIWI-biolab Talk: Machine Learning & Hybrid Modeling \n\n\n\nIn the frame of the series „KIWI-biolab talk“ Prof. Jarka Glassey will give a talk on Thursday\, April 20st\, at 17:00 (Brussels time) entitled „Preparing the next generation of chemical engineers for the transition to net zero/circular economy”. \n\n\n\nAbout the talkThe use of advanced modelling and control procedures is becoming widely accepted across a broad range of industrial sectors\, including bioprocessing. However\, significant challenges remain using these methods in the information limited development environment\, particularly when complex biological molecules or processes are involved. This is especially evident in cell culture processing for production of a range of products\, such as monoclonal antibodies\, where knowledge of critical quality attributes is limited. This presentation will highlight some advances in this area through examples of model-based bioprocess development and advanced process monitoring to assist those who are seeking to make fundamental changes to the drug manufacturing philosophy. Whilst using monoclonal antibody production as an example\, some modelling techniques will be demonstrated on other suitable processes. \n\n\n\nBiography \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProf Jarka Glassey completed her biochemical engineering studies at the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava and currently works at Newcastle University\, UK. Her research approach is based on the use of machine learning\, AI and hybrid modelling for bioprocess development\, scale-up and process intensification. She is currently VP Executive of EFCE and VP Executive of ESBES and is actively involved in the EFCE working party on Education\, WP on QbD as well as the measurement\, modelling\, monitoring and control section of ESBES. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccess to the talkThe talk is open to everybody and no registration is required.Join by clicking the ZOOM Link. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe KIWI-biolab is a future bioprocess lab located at the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin\, which is a member of the Bio-PAT network. The KIWI-biolab – Künstliche Intelligenz für Wissensbasierte Integrierte Biolabore – connects international top scientists in artificial intelligence\, machine learning and bioprocess engineering to explore the opportunities and challenges of automation in biotechnological processes.
