It covers the basics of microbiology, laboratory techniques,\u00a0\u00a0 as well as microbial sampling in theory and practice.\u00a0 The course is conducted in VLB\u2019s microbiological training laboratory and in our pilot brewery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Who should attend?<\/strong><br>The course addresses&nbsp; persons who work in the field of quality control in breweries, malt houses and beverage production. We recommend a basic knowledge of the brewing processes in general since this course will focus on the relevant microbiology only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Course topics<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Introduction to <\/strong><strong>microbiological lab-work and analysis<\/strong><br>Characterisation, classification and identification of microorganisms with relevance to beverages<strong>, <\/strong>PCR, Flowcytometry<\/li><li><strong>Microbiology lab work:<\/strong><strong> Sample preparation \/<\/strong><strong> analytics<\/strong><br>Preparations for light-microscope examinations, cell counting, staining, plating, sterilization, disinfection, etc.<\/li><li><strong>Microorganisms<\/strong><br>Yeasts, bacteria, molds (morphological and physiological characteristics)<\/li><li><strong>Nutrient media<\/strong><br>Different types, preparation, incubation, evaluation<\/li><li><strong>Microbiological quality control<\/strong><br>Sampling, different products, detection of contaminants, appraisal of results, microbial sampling in the brewery, weak points in breweries, hygienic design and cleaning, yeast management<\/li><li><strong>With reference to beer and other fermented beverages (e.g. Kombucha)<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The course will be held at VLB Berlin.
