Bio-PAT at VLB October convention 2023

The 107th October Convention of VLB Berlin took place on October 9 and 10, 2023 at VLB Berlin – for the first time since 1984. The symposium was aimed at technical managers from the brewing, malting, beverage industry and their partners from the supply industry. 

A varied program with 27 lectures in seven sessions was offered to 260 participants. In addition to the two brewing technology lecture blocks with a focus on energy, process technology and fermentation, the 52nd malting barley seminar, and the 5th VLB research colloquium, the program was expanded by the new VLB water symposium and the supply chain management forum.

On 10.10.23 at 11:45 am, Dr. Anika Bockisch (Bio-PAT e.V.) presented the PDW-Spectrsocopy as an innivative tool for the monitoring of the mashing and fermentation process in the brewery. The talk was entitled „Einsatz der inline-Photonendichtewellenspektroskopie in der Brauerei“. After the talk, intensive discussions with some participants started, which will be continued for future collaborations.

At the water symposium, actions were discussed in order to guarantee the supply of the brewing and beverage industry with high-quality drinking water in times of partial water shortages in Germany. The Supply Chain Management Forum dealed with CO2 emissions balances across the entire value chain, sustainability criteria in reusable cycles and the use of AI in beverage logistics.

Other program items included the regular meetings of the Technical-Scientific Committee (TWA) and the Business Scientific Committee (BWA) as well as the regular general meeting of the VLB Berlin e.V. In addition, the science funding of the German Brauwirtschaft e.V. held its advisory board meeting at the VLB. The October conference was complemented by an accompanying specialist exhibition and two evening events, providing additional opportunities for intensive networking.
