Immerse yourself in the world of science as around 60 institutions in Berlin and Potsdam open their doors to show inspiring experiments, engaging lectures, science shows, and behind-the-scenes laboratory tours.

Visit the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering / KIWI-biolab (Technische Universität Berlin) and other chairs of the Institute of Biotechnology (TU Berlin) at the „House of Biotechnology and Process Engineering“, located at Ackerstr. 76, 13355 Berlin.

The KIWI-biolab will be showcasing three captivating projects at this year’s event:
𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Robots and cultivation platforms are modern technical tools used to automate and digitize biotechnological processes in our laboratory. In addition to automatic pipetting, mobile robots can be a great help. Create a small image in a well plate with us and let the robot pipette and transport it automatically!
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐃𝐨 𝐈 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭?: Today, automated cultivation systems and pipetting robots are used in research to better control and optimize processes. The planning of experiments is essential for this. With us, you plan how to mix colors, for example, until the optimal result is achieved. Let the robot carry out the color experiment!
𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝: Bacteria are cultivated in the bioreactor and often fed with sugar. If they get too little food, they don’t grow – if they get too much, they run out of air. To keep the bacteria happy and calculate optimal feeding strategies, we use mathematical models and complex algorithms. With us, you can feed cells in a virtual bioreactor based on a growth model for the bacterium 𝘌. 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘪.
