KIWI-biolab Talk: „End-to-end experimental and machine learning workflows for predictive genetic design“

Juli 12 ; 16:00 17:30

In the series of the KIWI-biolab talks, Dr. Thomas E. Gorochowski will talk on July 12, 2022 at 16:00h (CEST) about „End-to-end experimental and machine learning workflows for predictive genetic design„.

Dr. Gorochowski studied a PhD in Engineering Mathematics at the University of Bristol (2012). Currently, he is a Royal Society University Research Fellow based in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Bristol. There, he is leading the Biocompute Lab and he is co-Director at the Bristol BioDesign Institute (BBI).

Abstract: High-throughput experiments combined with emerging machine learning (ML) technologies are enabling data-centric biological design workflows for synthetic biology. In this talk, Dr. Gorochowski will introduce some of the ways his group is contributing to this area, both from an experimental perspective, where nanopore sequencing is being used to characterise diverse libraries of genetic parts and circuits, to improved data processing pipelines and the rigorous optimisation of machine learning models for predicting the function of genetic parts from sequence alone. He aims to show the value of considering these workflows from end-to-end and how this can help improve quality and reproducibility of results.
