Climate Tech Hub
The Climate Tech Hub (formerly Berlin-Brandenburg Energy Network e.V.) is the innovative industry network for the capital region. By promoting innovation and collaboration among various stakeholders in the Climate Tech and renewable energy sectors, they aim to jointly shape a more sustainable future.
The Climate Tech Hub is committed to establishing Berlin and Brandenburg as an international location for climate technology and innovation.
MARIS BB | Management of Urban Water Cycles
MARIS Berlin Brandenburg is the network of the Berlin and Brandenburg water industry. Its members consist primarily of regional small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as research and science institutions.
The network addresses relevant future challenges of the water industry in the metropolitan region and acts as an interest group towards politics, administration, and the public.
Cooperations and Projects from the Network
Collaboration TU Berlin and HTW Berlin
On May 21, 2025, students of the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin and the MBA & Engineering in Life Science Management Programme, HTW met for exchange.
Both parties are currently participating in a course, constructed as a kind of case study.
Collaboration EloSystems and KIWI-biolab (TU Berlin)
In the frame of a PhD project of Lucas Kaspersetz at the KIWI-biolab (Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin), the new instrument of EloSystems – „µCheck“ – a smart system for online monitoring of bacteria in bioprocesses was tested in parallel E. coli parallel cultivations.
Integration of Companies into PAT Education
In December 2022, Dr. Holger Müller from BlueSens gas sensor GmbH gave a lecture on “Off-gas analysis as a multitool for bioprocess optimization” to biotechnology students at the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin.
Technology Transfer between innoFSPEC / University of Potsdam and ABiTEP
A cooperation between ABiTEP GmbH and innoFSPEC / University of Potsdam, Physical Chemistry focuses on the use of photon density wave spectroscopy (PDW Analytics GmbH) in Bacillus fermentations at ABiTEP GmbH. Initial results at laboratory scale at the University of Potsdam were already generated in 2022 and are promising.
7th BioProScale Symposium with Chair of Bioprocess Engineering, VLB & Bio-PAT
In March 2022, the 7th BioProScale Symposium took place in Berlin. It was organized by the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin, the Research and Teaching Institute for Brewing in Berlin e.V. (VLB) and Bio-PAT e.V. In addition, members BlueSens gas sensor GmbH, Celltainer Biosolutions GmbH, Enpresso GmbH and KNAUER Wissenschaftliche Geräte GmbH were exhibitors.
Cooperation Project Chair of Bioprocess Engineering, Bio-PAT and Colombia
In August 2021, the “WasteValor” project started, aiming to achieve biogenic waste valorization through decentralized biomass utilization. The Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin cooperates, alongside Bio-PAT e.V., with Universidad del Valle and FWE GmbH within the framework of promoting Scientific-Technological Cooperation (WTZ) with Colombia. Among other things, a delegation traveled to Colombia in December 2021 for this cooperation (Report on the trip).
Cooperation between Knick and SOPAT – new exchange fitting
The cooperation between Knick Elektronische Messgeräte GmbH & Co. KG and SOPAT GmbH resulted in 2021 in a customized product of the latest technology: The endoscopic, photo-optical SOPAT probes were combined with the fully automatic exchange fitting Ceramat WA 155 (fully automatic cleaning without process interruption) and the electropneumatic control unit Uniclean 900 from Knick.
Cooperation Chair of Bioprocess Engineering, TUB and innoFSPEC / University of Potsdam
In the PDWkontrol project, which ran from early 2021 to mid-2022, innoFSPEC at the University of Potsdam and the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin worked closely together. The project evaluated the use of photon density wave spectroscopy (PDW Analytics GmbH) for process control of high cell density cultivations for the production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA, basis for the production of 100% biodegradable bioplastics). The process scale was upscaled to 150 L.
Collaboration of the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering, TUB with SOPAT – Probe Application
With the installation of a device of the latest MM2 generation in June 2020 – a high-resolution at-line photo-optical probe – the successful and long-standing collaboration between SOPAT GmbH and the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin for the application of microscopy in microbial bioprocesses continues.
Photoshoot by SOPAT at the Research and Teaching Institute for Brewing
SOPAT GmbH conducted a photoshoot in March 2020 at the premises of the Research and Teaching Institute for Brewing in Berlin e.V. (VLB) to showcase its products, techniques, and employees in a new light. Both partners benefited from the event.
Publication by innoFSPEC, PDW & Bioprocess Engineering, TU Berlin
In a collaboration between innoFSPEC (University of Potsdam) and the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) were determined for the first time during high cell density cultivation using in-line photon density wave spectroscopy (PDW Analytics GmbH). This was published in August 2019. PHA is the basis for the production of 100% biodegradable bioplastics.
Cooperation Project between Chair of Bioprocess Engineering, TU Berlin and ANiMOX
The project “PHABio-up” (Polyhydroxyalkanoate Biopolymers from Waste Animal Fats: Scale-up for Enabling Industrial Production), which started in July 2019, aims to accelerate the industrial production of 100% biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) biopolymers from biogenic raw materials. In the project, the Chair of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin works closely with ANiMOX GmbH and other partners.
